1. Define lived experience and see value in engaging those with lived experience
2. Understand why co-design matters and be familiar with various methods to engage participants at multiple levels
3. Identify practical first steps for your nonprofit
In this session, you’ll learn what lived experience means. Who are the community residents with experience with __________ issue and/or challenge? Are you meaningfully engaging the community you are trying to serve? Engaging people with lived experience in co-design is a challenging, joyful and deeply rewarding opportunity to change how we work, as well as outcomes. It can feel intimidating, but so is anything that’s really worthwhile. In this session, we will explore what engaging those with lived experience looks like and also learn five key concepts to get you started. Stories in both the rural and urban settings will be shared to inspire you on this meaningful journey.
