Darrin is a leader across sectors. His career spans 20+ years working in government, nonprofits, higher education and private industry. An energetic executive leader, Darrin is a strategic thinker who is excited to be in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, his birthplace, to lead the Coastal Community Foundation. With a purpose to help create vibrant communities by uniting people and investing resources, Coastal Community Foundation manages more than $280 million in assets and awards an average of more than $15 million in grants and scholarships annually. Before joining Coastal Community Foundation, Darrin worked in philanthropy at United Way of Greenville County and Capital Area United Way (CAUW) in Baton Rouge, LA. As President and CEO of CAUW he turned around the organization’s workplace campaign from years of declining revenue to a 7 percent increase in just two years. At United Way of Greenville County, where he spent six years as Vice President of Community Impact, Darrin directed $6.5 million in program funding and support annually to dozens of partner agencies and programs as leader of 19-person department. During his tenure at the United Way, Darrin led the establishment of the Greenville Region Workforce Collaborative, securing a National Funds for Workforce Solutions grant and leveraging an additional $1 million in private, corporate and public support for the initiative. Prior to beginning his career in philanthropy, Darrin served as a U.S. Army Officer, worked in training and development for Sunoco Inc. and returned to his alma mater, Wofford College, to work as Director of Multicultural Affairs and Leadership Programs, and later as Assistant Dean of Students & Director of Career Services. In that time, he also earned his master’s degree from North Greenville University. Darrin participated in The Riley Institute’s Diversity Leadership Institute in 2010 and the Harvard Business School’s 2015 seminar, “Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management.” He is a Class of 2018 Liberty Fellow. He serves on the boards of MDC, Inc. in Durham, NC, the Lowcountry’s Tri-County Cradle to Career Collaborative, the SC Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics Foundation, and also serves on the One Region Executive Committee. His book The Leadership Option: Decision Making Essentials was self-published in 2014 and is available on Amazon. In his spare time, Darrin enjoys reading, writing, playing golf and spending time with his wife, Vee. Their son, Darrin Goss, Jr., currently serves in the U.S. Navy.
