If you spend five minutes on Vu Le’s often hilarious and always thought-provoking blog, Nonprofit AF, you will know he is not afraid of bringing light to, and tackling, the many challenges facing our nonprofits and foundations, including what he likes to refer to as “the hunger games,” unequal power dynamics between foundations and grantees, and our scarcity mindset. If you’re not familiar with Vu, we are fairly certain there will be plenty of laughs, ideas and solutions to consider for your nonprofit and make you believe in unicorns. But don’t take our word for it. Here are a few things to learn about Vu before the Summit:
Monday morning chuckles (and excellent nonprofit discussion topics, of course). Sign up for Vu’s Monday nonprofit news that comes straight to your inbox and a great way to start the week.
Unicorns are real. Vu is always emphasizing the importance of humor in the nonprofit sector along with interjecting his perspective that “most people expect us to be like unicorns, we’re supposed to do everything magically—without resources, without overhead… and if that’s the case, we might as well use the unicorn as our mascot for the sector.”
Spend Wednesday morning with Vu as he leads us through highly interactive exercises and engaging conversations aimed at re-examining many of our existing philosophies and practices, including how we:
- Raise money
- Talk about ourselves
- Engage around issues of race and equity
Vu rightly believes such an examination is the first step in the redesign needed to unlock our organizations’ true potential to be the bridges of the future (and we the bridge builders) our communities need.
Leave this session inspired to forge deeper relationships with funders, donors, other nonprofits and other sectors.
The future is bright. As long as we are willing to build these bridges, take control of our fears and go boldly forward.
