Historic and Contemporary Perspectives on South Carolina’s Racially-Divided Past
This guided bus tour will begin with a visit to the nation’s first museum of Reconstruction at the Woodrow Wilson Family Home where attendees will experience the progress and victories of African Americans during this historic era. With this foundation, participants move to the SC State House grounds where we will explore the backlash to Reconstruction that empowered the erection of monuments to white supremacy that populate this public property. This tour will include facilitated conversations considering the impact of our divisive and often violent past on our communities today. A bus will pick up participants at the Marriott hotel on Hampton Street. Once the tour has concluded participants will have a short walk back to the Columbia Marriott.
