Our Story Matters: Columbia Civil Rights Walking Tour
From sit-ins at lunch counters near the corner of Main and Hampton streets to marches and protests that filled the South Carolina State House grounds, Columbia’s Main Street was the stage for a number of defining moments during the Civil Rights Movement of 1963. Columbia SC 63’s Main Street Walking Tour takes visitors on a journey through some of Columbia’s Civil Rights most noteworthy and moving stories. The walking tour will highlight the historical significance of the seven markers that serve as reminders of pivotal incidents that occurred along downtown Columbia’s Main Street corridor.
Tour, led by Jonathan Johnson, will begin at South Carolina Statehouse Grounds: African American History Monument
