Deanna Miller Berry is known to all as “The Fighting Mom”—was born and raised in Ridgeville, SC by a single mother. She is the eldest of five children, wife to Patrick Berry, mother of four children and a US Army Veteran.

Deanna is a community advocate, a rising politician, and the founding organizer of Denmark Citizens for Safe Water & National Water for Humanity, a grassroots, citizen-led organization fighting for access to safe water in poor underserved areas across America. She is also a healthcare advocate who has helped over 300 families receive approvals for their children’s denied medical claims.

Deanna is a Clemson Emerging Scholars Advisory Board Member for Bamberg School District #2; School Improvement Council Vice Chairman for Denmark Olar High School (three-year term); County Director / Coordinator for Toys for Tots in Bamberg, Barnwell, & Allendale Counties; Community Advisory Board Member for Denmark Olar Citizens for Better Schools; Founder & CEO of The Saving Shannie Foundation, a nonprofit geared toward special needs; Mentor & Administrator for the Motivational Mentorship Movement in Bamberg County; Advanced Education Committee for School; Member of The Bamberg County Chamber of Commerce; and an Airway Defect Awareness Spokesperson.

She authored “The Vindicated Liar,” a book based on her true story, and co-authored a children’s book called “The Adventures of Princess Shannie.” She is an advocate for children in the Kinship Care program, a Kinship Care foster parent and received an award for excellent care of the children.

Deanna was given the 2019 Giving Your Best Award Recipient from News 6 WJBF of Augusta; the Humanitarian of the Year 2016 through the CMBEA (Charleston Multi-Cultural Bridal & Event Association); and was the recipient of the 2017 National Sergeant Shriver Lifetime Achievement Award.
