Mrs. Patrena Mims is happily married to Mr. Don Mims, Director of Student Services for Spartanburg School District 7, with whom Patrena shares two beautiful daughters, Deona and Lauren. Mrs. Mims is the Executive Director of the Bethlehem Center where she has served since August of 2011. The Bethlehem Center is a multi-service, non-profit organization, established in 1930 and has proudly served the Spartanburg community over 90 years. Mrs. Mims work involves engaging and encouraging those in the community by building relationships, fostering opportunities for partnerships with other groups and local businesses. In addition, she serves as an advocate for resources and the needs of the community – specifically for low- and moderate-income individuals.
Prior to becoming the Executive Director for the Bethlehem Center, Mrs. Mims had an extensive career working with families, children, communities, and partners. Mrs. Mims has over 25 years of program development and managerial experience.
Mrs. Mims was formerly employed with the SC Department of Social Services as a Human Service Specialist specializing in intake which included assessing risk and reports of risk to children and adults. After leaving the Department of Social Services, Mrs. Mims transitioned to the Spartanburg Housing Authority as a Family Self Sufficiency case manager. During her tenor at the Housing Authority Mrs. Mims was able to advance through the ranks leaving as the Director of Homeownership and Resident Services.
Mrs. Mims prides herself on relationships and servant leadership. The Bethlehem Center serves close to 2000 individuals annually, which includes 200 youth, 50 Senior adults, as well as an additional 1500 supportive service/referral participants.
As the Executive Director of the Bethlehem Center Mrs. Mims, staff, board, and supporters we have been able to sustain and grow programs at the Center which includes Youth Programs (target ages 5K to high school), Community Supportive and Wellness Programs as well as a newly implemented early learning program (6wks to 4K).
What gratifies her the most is advocating for the needs of low to moderate income families and their children. To ensure through partnerships and collaborations that families are provided the opportunities and resources needed to reach their fullest potential.
